History of Anao


Anao is a first class barangay (as categorized) of the municipality of Mexico. It is situated nine kms. North of Mexico, the town proper in the province of Pampanga. It is bounded in the north by the municipality of Arayat and bounded in the east by the municipality of Sta, Ana. Its population totals to 5,324 with 854 houses.

It is said that our place got its name by the presence of these many growing "Anahaw" plants found almost around the vicinity, (e.g. creeks and backyard.) Proud to say our barangay was founded by the following group of families to wit: Vergara, Delos Santos, Torno and David. Its land area is three hundred hectares with good and smooth terrain as to make it tillable. Its soil is primarily suitable to rice, corn and sugar cane are predominant. Its climate is relative to the province of Pampanga.



Out of the 300 - hectare land area of the barangay some 150 hectares are alloted to rice and corn farming, 40 hectares to sugar plantation and some 20 hectares for fruits and vegetables cultivation. Anao is said to be self-sufficient in rice because of adequate irrigation system. People comprising the community are 70% farmers, with sufficient annual income ranking them almost the middle class income group. The livestock and poultry industry of the place plays an important role in the community economy. Several poultry projects are attended to and are commercial size. Almost all the household are engaged in piggery. Individual artesian wells are the main source of water supply.

Furthermore, the populace exercise themselves the right of suffrage. Families in the area are interested in making their children have good education placing with much coveted professionals such as doctors, nurses, engineers, accountant, teachers and many other masteral degrees. Most of the habitants are dominantly Roman Catholics. However there are also some religious sects found in the community though of a minimal faction. The road connecting it with town proper is very much viable making transportation an easy one. Public utility jeeps make regular trips from Anao to SM San Fernando and Anao to Magalang and vice versa. Tricycles are used as substitute in conveying commuters from barrio to town proper, Mexico. The people of Anao have always been known for their cooperation and dedication. A good leader always gets his helping hands. Anao is a first class barangay mistaken to be the town proper of Mexico.
